History of the Wilcoxon Municipal Ice Complex

Welcome to the Skating Club of Huntsville, located at the Benton H. Wilcoxon Municipal Ice Complex.

In 1959, a chemical engineer from California, Benton H. Wilcoxon brought ice skating to Huntsville. He built a small indoor rink named the Ice Palace. 27 years later, in 1986, Mr. Wilcoxon donated the rink to the city of Huntsville. In 1991, the city with the help of FRIA (Friends of Recreational Ice Activities)replaced the original rink with a larger facility that includes 2 NHL size sheets of ice. It was named the Benton H. Wilcoxon Municipal Ice Complex.

The self-sufficient, Benton H. Wilcoxon Municipal Ice Complex serves as home of the 47 year old Huntsville Skating School and Training Academy and The Skating Club of Huntsville
